New VitalSigns for FTP Software Addresses FTP Security Issues

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) October 13, 2011

As FTP data traffic continues to grow, so does the ongoing challenge of monitoring and securing it. Safe file transfer for the IBM z/OS platform has long been available from VitalSigns for FTP, a product of Software Diversified Services (SDS). The newest version, released in September 2011, VFTP 3.0, offers new collaboration with other file transfer tools, and best-in-class security, automation and customizable control.

"With the U.S. Computer Readiness Team identifying hundreds of FTP-related security issues, IT departments understand that FTP lacks important security safeguards and provides no clear audit trail," said Jim Lampi, vice president at SDS. "VitalSigns for FTP addresses these issues and provides the security, automation, and monitoring that companies of all sizes need."

VFTP monitors and secures data transfers passing through z/OS FTP servers and clients while providing a seamless and transparent conversion from FTP to SFTP. VFTP 3.0 also monitors and secures transfers through two other data transfer tools: Clients and servers using IBM Ported Tools OpenSSH 1.2, and Tectia(TM) clients and servers.

VFTP thoroughly monitors compliance with security policies and regulations. VFTP 3.0 can alert administrators to any file transfer that exceeds a specified size. It can also stop those transfers.

In addition to vital FTP security, VitalSigns for FTP offers network-wide visibility, allowing companies to track the complete ins and outs of their FTP traffic. It provides real-time notification when FTP jobs fail, tracking and logging of all FTP file transfers, reporting of top-10 FTP users, jobs, file sizes, and more.

In particular, VitalSigns for FTP provides:

Easy, seamless, transparent migration from FTP to secure SFTP--without editing batch jobs;

Graphic dashboard charts to illustrate FTP and SFTP activity in immediate real-time;

Comprehensive and flexible workload monitoring and management to cover all business needs as well as rapid troubleshooting;

Easy-to-use, robust controls over the configuration and behavior of z/OS FTP clients;

Thorough audit capabilities for compliance and security.

The new Outpost Security Suite Free 7.1 English-German edition brings ease-of-use and transparency for non-expert users who want to feel protected online without the expense and sometimes steep learning curve of many commercial products. As soon as it's installed, OSS Free provides robust, easy-to-use protection with optimal default settings to address web-borne threats including known and zero-day viruses, spyware, hacker attacks and intrusions, spam, and more.

Outpost Security Suite Free builds on the cutting-edge technologies in the commercial version of the suite. RideNow Powersports Secures 22 Locations and Significantly Improves Internet Security with OpenDNS Enterprise

San Francisco (PRWEB) January 25, 2012

OpenDNS, the world's largest and fastest-growing provider of Internet security and DNS services that deliver a safer, faster and more intelligent Internet experience to everyone, today announced RideNow Powersports has deployed OpenDNS Enterprise, the favorite Internet security solution of retailers, to comprehensively improve Internet security and reduce the total cost of ownership for its malware prevention and content filtering initiatives. RideNow Powersports is a premier chain of motorcycle, ATV and watercraft dealerships with 22 locations across the U.S.

Prior to deploying OpenDNS Enterprise, RideNow Powersports was using Edgewave?s IPrism device, but was searching for a solution that would be more cost-effective to deploy across its 22 locations, as the Edgewave solution required time-consuming and expensive installation of filtering devices. RideNow Powersports was also looking for a solution that contained a more robust set of enterprise-specific features in order to improve the company?s overall Internet security strategy.

After an exhaustive review of available Internet security solutions, RideNow Powersports chose to deploy cloud-based OpenDNS Enterprise because it is the only solution for Web filtering that also protects against inbound and outbound malware through its unique, embedded malware-prevention technology. OpenDNS Enterprise protects against malware both by blocking access to known malicious sites and by disabling communication between downloaded malware and its online host, thus rendering the malware ineffective.

?OpenDNS Enterprise is a comprehensive solution that saves us time and money through its easy-to-manage content filtering and embedded malware protection,? said Joe Hennessy, systems and technology director for RideNow Powersports. ?We couldn?t live without the extensive list of categories that make it easy for us to manage filtering at any of our locations with just a few clicks.?

RideNow Powersports selected OpenDNS Enterprise for content filtering because the service offered two immediate opportunities for the company to improve efficiency. First, the cloud-based technology can be deployed and managed from a single online Dashboard in a matter of minutes, eliminating the need for RideNow?s IT team to set up cumbersome devices or manage complex updates and allowing them to focus on more a proactive IT strategy. Second, OpenDNS Enterprise offers considerable network insight and stats so the IT team was able to quickly identify and filter content that it found to be harmful or distracting from core employee responsibilities.

Hennessy added: ?Since deployment, our employees are no longer burdened by dealing with distracting or harmful Internet sites and they?re able to better focus on what?s most important: serving our customers. I would recommend OpenDNS Enterprise to any organization that is looking to improve efficiency and reduce IT management costs.?

About OpenDNS

OpenDNS is the world's leading provider of Internet security and DNS services, enabling the world to connect to the Internet with confidence on any device, anywhere, any time.
